When did farming with chemicals become “conventional” and Organic farming become exotic?

Organic Farming

It seems that some how respect for the land and for our own bodies is now some how concidered “Liberal” when to me it seems like the most conservative notion possible. When did our culture make this flip flop?

I didn’t realize that farming could be so political…learn something everyday. But I don’t know why this would surprise you. Conservatives are in it for MONEY…money for the few on the backs of the poor. Obviously, bug sprays, fertilizers, etc., will produce far bigger yields per acre, so I suppose that is what has happened, if it has happened.

this site has a history of farming & should tell you when this insanity all began….you can bet it was on the shoulders of some Capitolistic monster like Dupont.

I beleive it started with the advent of WWII. Soldiers were being fed with pre-packaged foods and when the war was over, corporations picked up on the idea and started marketing such foods (with more palatable modifications) to the mainstream. from that point on, it became big money. For big money to make more money (it’s never enough, you know), food must grow faster, bigger and be less affected by the elements including little, bitty critters. It costs more money and takes more time to grow organically and the end result isn’t always a visually a perfect specimen. But, man! It sure does taste better!

There is more money with chemicals and more food produced. Some are still planting organic gardens, and I support them.
