why not just support your local farmers and buy locally that way you can talk to the farmers themselves and you can ask questions about the fertilzers they use and what the season was like.

Buying organic and making your own food is much much cheaper than the organic jarred foods. I make my own baby food, but I have been adding jarred organics in because we are going to Mexico in a few weeks and frozen foods aren’t going to last on the trip =P But, as an example, I can make 16 baby sized portions of organic lentils for $3, but I would spend $1.50 for a jar of organic lentils. I also buy frozen organic fruits and veggies to make purees out of - the only thing you have to make sure of there is that they aren’t frozen with salt (many veggies are as part of the flash freezing process)
Also, there are a few foods that really make sense to feed organic, and then there are some that don’t matter as much because not as much pesticide gets in to the food - here’s a good list:
Edit - Ian’s mommy - you can refreeze veggies if you cook it after you thaw it the first time.

Gerber has an organic baby food line. It is not that much more than regular baby food. It’s 25 cents more a jar.
You can also make your own baby food with a grinder or food processor. When my son is more of an eater, I’m going to make food in big batches. Then freeze in ice cube trays. When you need a meal you pop out a cube of peas and a cube of chicken(or what ever), and thaw.
Remember you can not re-freeze food, so do not try with frozen veggies.
